My role as a coach is simply to help you explore your life experiences and make new connections to eliminate limiting and unwanted beliefs, barriers, and behaviors, communicate more effectively in personal and professional relationships, and achieve their goals and dreams. My approach to coaching varies depending on client need. I use a blend of cognitive-behavioral and family-systems techniques with transactional analysis. I built these more traditional skills through training at Western Michigan University in the Community Agency program. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Michigan and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors. I was pleased to add to my repertoire in 2013, with skills in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Hypnotherapy through Bennett Stellar University. I am an NLP Master Life Coach, Certified TimeLine Coach™, and Certified Hypnotherapist.
Cognitive-Behavioral theory describes a short-term, goal-oriented psychotherapy treatment that takes a hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving. Its goal is to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind people's difficulties, and so change the way they feel.
The family systems theory is a theory introduced by Dr. Murray Bowen that suggests that individuals cannot be understood in isolation from one another, but rather as a part of their family, as the family is an emotional unit. Families are systems of interconnected and interdependent individuals, none of whom can be understood in isolation from the system. I have found great success in using Genograms, developed by Monica McGoldrick and Randy Gerson, to explore family relationships and their impact on individual development and mental health.
Solution-focused brief therapy is an approach to psychotherapy based on solution-building rather than problem-solving. It explores current resources and future hopes rather than present problems and past causes and typically involves only three to five sessions.
The goal of transactional analysis, founded by Eric Berne, is to explore an individual's personality and how this has been shaped by experiences - particularly those stemming from childhood. It is considered a fundamental therapy for well-being and for helping individuals to reach their full potential in all aspects of life.
NLP is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder. NLP focuses on the connections between the neurological processes ('neuro'), language ('linguistic') and behavioral patterns learned through experience ('programming') and that these can be changed to achieve specific goals in life. TimeLine Coaching™, as developed by Michael Bennett, utilizes a person’s own internal “Time Line” to work with their unconscious minds in a variety of ways including healing emotional traumas and eradicating unwanted thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
